30 mai 1854 - Kansas - Nebraska Act

Description:

The Kansas - Nebraska Act is a bill passed, on May 30, 1854, to organize Kansas and Nebraska territory according to popular sovereignty. This means that the people get to choose if they want to be a northern, or southern territory. It was significant because it replaced the Missouri Compromise, that required equal number of slave and free territory, and allowed the people to figure out ,by themselves, if their territory is to be a slave or free. This started violent acts between the pro-slavery and anti-slavery activist. These violence was named "Bleeding Kansas". All the fights were sporadic and unorganized. It was foreshadowing of the evil to come with the Civil War. The bill was drafted by Stephan Douglas.
