1 janv. 1765 - Quartering Act of 1765

Description:

The first Quartering Act gave the responsibility of housing soldiers to the American colonies' legislatures. This version of the law didn't allow soldiers to stay at colonists' houses, instead asking that they be given space in barracks or public spaces like taverns, inns, and alehouses. The colonies also had financial responsibility of providing food and supplies.

Most colonists did not appreciate being told they were responsible for housing the unwanted (and unneeded since the end of the French and Indian War) standing army, particularly in New York and Boston. Soldiers were often placed as far from the town as was available. The act expired in1767.
