- Labour wasted £36 million through a failed scheme which encouraged ground nut growing in West Africa
- There was well-organised opposition to nationalisation of industry.
- Churchill accused Labour of putting the ideals of socialism before the people
- Churchill was accused of being conciliatory towards communism
