- The party organisation had improved due to Lord Woolton, the chair man, who made them better-run and more locally active and raised a fund of £1 million
- The changes to constituencies, including the creation of seventeen more seats helped Conservative more than Labour
- Despite the reduced controls over the production of clothes for the home market, the restrictions still made Labour unpopular.
- Labour wasted £36 million through a failed scheme which encouraged ground nut growing in West Africa
- There was well-organised opposition to nationalisation of industry.
- Churchill accused Labour of putting the ideals of socialism before the people
- Churchill was accused of being conciliatory towards communism
