8 avr. 1913 - 17th Amendment Ratified
Description:
Direct Election of Senator to U.S. Congress (Expression of Sentiments #8): The ratification of the 17th Amendment overrode the previous Constitution's provisions on the election of senators, changing it so that they are elected directly by the voting public during elections. This allowed new senators to make decisions based on the demands of the constituents that elected them, rather than the state legislatures that may have had ties to special interests.
