First colony and first of the Chesapeake colonies. Jamestown voyage was founded by the Virginia company. The men who ventured to Virginia were gentleman (second heirs) and had a lack of supplies, suitable workers, and overall survival instinct to live in the colony. They also inhabited land that was good for agriculture and planting. Tabacco cultivation (cash crop)
