2 juill. 1890 - Sherman Anti-Trust Act

Description:

This was the first legislation enacted by the US Congress to curb concentrations of power that interfere with trade and reduce economic competition. The Act outlawed all combinations of that restrain trade between states or with foreign nations. It was designed to tackle monopolies, which were anti-competitive )e.g. a supermarket which can choose prices and destroy competition). However, it was virtually completely ineffective as companies carried on becoming more dominant.

Trade unions were also seen as a threat and damaging to trade and economic conditions. Consequently, a secondary result of this act was to take on the unions. It was used to target the unions, forbidding strikes.
