2 juill. 2127 - PANIC OVER VENUS

Description:

In perhaps the most unexpected event in human history, one otherwise normal day in the July of 2127 humanity was shocked by a massive explosion on the planet Venus that was bright enough to be viewed even at midday through Earth's thick blue atmosphere. Within days earth's scientists were able to ascertain that the event could not possibly have been a natural occurrence, as no naturally formed asteroid could have hit with that trajectory, that amount of velocity, or that sheer amount of force.

Humanity, who had still not made certain that Aliens even exist at this point, were shocked and horrified by the implications this event had for the lifeforms that might await them out in the wider universe.

The impact would be discovered to be as a tubular tungsten projectile which approached from a supposedly empty region of space, at least beyond the orbit of Pluto.

Thankfully, as the projectile came from the outer edge of the solar system, the chunks of Venus ejected by the impact all tumbled inwards toward the sun instead of outwards toward the earth, sparing Earth of an extinction-level meteorite threat.

Humanity knew now that this must have been some sort of weapon, but they could not answer the questions of who fired it or why they aimed for Venus, an uninhabitable acidic world with little strategic or economic value.

The prevailing theory, that would eventually seem be the most likely truth, is that the projectile wasn't intended for Venus at all.
It was intended for Earth.

The greatest international panic humanity had ever faced would result from this catastrophic event, terrifying humanity perhaps even more than the "Lunacy" period a century prior. This event was not exactly the "First Contact" humanity had once hoped for, and as no information about the civilization responsible for firing it could be ascertained, it wasn't really a first contact at all.

Not just affecting humanity, this catastrophe also struck fear into the heart of A.M.I., whose cherished humanity now seemed fragile. The civilisational threat which now loomed out in the stars had proven themselves capable of wiping out humanity in an instant if they chose to do so...
