1 juill. 1917 - Puerto Ricans during WW1
Description:
Most Puerto Ricans migrated to camps in New Mexico to train. Not only did males migrate but this prompted their families to come along as well. Puerto Ricans of African Descent were assigned to “all-black units” but southern politicians were still opposed to this idea (Jim crow era was heavily present during WWI). White supremacy was growing because most white Americans in power did not want anybody fighting with them who had at least a drop of African descent. Thought they’d add to their problems because they were already facing Germany.
