On April 17 2013 the Boston marathon bombings happened. The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon. That was the 117th yearly marathon for Boston. 26,839 people were running it when it was bombed. About 4 hours into the marathon the first bomb went off about half a block from the finish line. About 12 seconds later the second bomb went off. Only 3 people died from it. A young 8-year-old boy. A 29-year-old girl. And a Boston University graduate from China. More than 200 others were injured. Some of them suffered severe injuries. Injuries such as head injuries, hearing loss, and 17 had severed limbs. 14 survivors required amputations. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was the person that was responsible for the bombings and was caught. He was initially going to get a death sentence but instead, he was sentenced to life in prison. But no amount of time in prison can rivers the effect he did on people's lives.
