Martin Luther King Jr was a very important man in the 1960s. He fought for equal rights which made him very popular with some, and very unpopular with others. He accomplished many things throughout his life and even won a Nobel Peace Prize making himself the youngest man ever to win it. Fame and popularity come with haters. Many people disliked Martin Luther King Jr because he wanted to change things and make a difference. One person hated him so much that they decided to kill him. This man's name was James Earl Ray. He was a 40-year-old escaped fugitive. Most people believe he did it, but Martin Luther King Jr's kids say differently, they say Ray was framed. They believe that it was the mafia and government agencies who set up the assassination and had Ray take the blame. The country mourned the death of Martin Luther King Jr, and still do.
