The Italian Constitution was born from the work of a commission of 75 wise men who on 31 January 1947 submitted a text to the Constituent Assembly which, after the examination of numerous amendments, was approved on 22 December 1947 and entered into force on 1 January 1948. The The Constitution was signed by the President of the Republic Enrico De Nicola and countersigned by the Prime Minister Alcide De Gasperi and by the President of the Constituent Assembly, Umberto Terracini.
