Rutherford's research and experiments led him to the discovery of proton. This was another great moment in the development of atomic and subatomic theories, for it identified another piece of the atom puzzle. He discovered this piece through his gold foil experiment where he deflected alpha particles through a gold foil. Some passed thought but some were bounced off and deflected back.
