Description:

On September 6th, 1899 U.S. Secretary of State John Hay delivered his "Open Door Note" to as part of a diplomatic interest mission in China. The Open Door Policy was a foreign interest effort America spearheaded to try and keep China open to business and trade with the United States. This was mostly a result of the Opium wars which the U.S. benefitted from, although not being a war participant in. The following political Cartoon by Udo J. Keppler depicts the "tug of war" for China by the various western powers.
