A group calling itself "The Islamic Group of Egypt", more popularly known as Al-Jihad assassinated President Anwar Sadat in 1981 because of his failure to govern the country according to the Shar'ia. This was motivated by sentiments that he was a "false Muslim" - imposter who strayed from the true faith(Shughart 28)
