The Japanese surrendered because of the bombings of their country. The US had put many pressures on the Japanese as they beat the Germans and bombed Hiroshima. The Japanese had been offered the Potsdam Conference which was an unconditional surrender of Japan. The Japanese emperor was hesitant to accept the offer at first because he did not want to surrender but, the Prime Minister of Japan convinced him that they should surrender. This was because the U.S. then dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki killing many many more. There was a military coup but it was squashed and did not work. The Japanese surrendered and their emperor made an announcement to the Japanese people it said “We have resolved to pave the way for a grand peace for all the generations to come by enduring the unendurable and suffering what is insufferable.” After this announcement, the U.S. immediately accepted the Japanese surrender President Harry S. Truman gave all authority to the Takeover of Japan to General MacArthur. This is how Japan surrendered.
