14 févr. 1912 - Arizona joins the Union

Description:

Both Arizona and New Mexico joined the union in 1912. Arizona has the longest path to statehood of any state in the country, along with New Mexico and excluding current territories’ bids to become states. Why it took Arizona so long to become a state is, like most historical events, complicated and less than straightforward. The Arizona Territory didn’t exist until 1863. Prior to 1863, Arizona and New Mexico were one territory known as the New Mexico Territory and the population was pretty sparse. In 1910 Arizona was authorized to become a state by Congress. This event involved Arizona trying to become a state and separate itself. This event is very important to history becuase it helped form our country. It added onto what we were making in our nation and it helped the nation grow. This event it so important to forming a trong country and it helped the congress and their powers. Arizona is a very important state that is here becuase of the congress.
