The 1993 world trade center bombing was a terrorist attack carried out by Al-Qaeda on February 26, 1993. A van bomb exploded beneath the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The 1,336-pound urea nitrate-hydrogen bomb was made for the north tower to crash into the south tower and then they would both fall over and kill tens of thousands of people. The bombing did not go according to plan but it did kill 6 people including a pregnant lady and it injured thousands. 50,000 people were evacuated from the buildings that day. In 1994 four men were charged with the bombing of the world trade center. These charges included conspiracy, explosive destruction of property, and interstate transport of explosives. These men were Salemeh, Nidal Ayyad, Mahmud Aboulhamila, and Ahmad Ajaj and they were sentenced to 240 years in prison for their actions and have received many death threats since.
