6 oct. 1899 - Open Door Policy
Description:
Sec. of State John Hay forms the Open Door Policy. He convinced the other imperial powers to follow this policy. It knocked down the spheres of influence in China; it allowed countries to compete with each other in every part of China. No monopolies. All countries can sell in all parts of China.
Policy was advertised as good for the Chinese (bc it got rid of monopolies), but they weren’t consulted.
