Description:
- De Lome = Spanish diplomat in US. He sent a letter to the Spanish gov. in Cuba. In it, he basically says “don’t worry about a war w/ the US, Mckinley is weak lol, keep crushing rebellions”
- Cuban rebels steal the letter at the post office, send it to Hearst who publishes it- increases pressure on Mckinley to show strength. He resists going to war but then…the USS Maine
