31 janv. 1892 - Homestead Strike

Description:

Carnegie Steel workers go on strike because of wage cuts. They occupy the factory.

At the time, Carnegie Steel was under the control of Henry Frick (Andrew C. was out of the country so he avoided a lot of the criticism).

Frick cut wages. When workers protested, he hired 300 “detectives” to try to sneak into the back of the plant (which the workers had taken control of). Someone tipped off the workers so when the detectives came, they were ready. A violent fight happened. Detectives surrender to workers.

President Cleveland sends in the army. Workers lose and are replaced.
