Description:

1) Railroads: 1870s-80s, US is completing transcontinental RRs. Meant that they could bring unlimited supplies or soldiers (east to west in less than 2 weeks).

2) European diseases. Smallpox and flu = deadly to natives.

3) Alcohol addiction: natives were known to trade valuable resources for alcohol.

4) US gov kept shrinking reservations (which wasn’t good for natives’ nomadic lifestyle).

5) Near extinction of the buffalo: Americans hunted buffaloes with the purpose of hurting natives. Buffalo Bill Cody = famous hunter, killed 4000 himself in 18 months (also did shows with SB and helped Native relations with Americans). Population of buffalo went from 65 million in 1800 to 1000 in 1885).
