5 févr. 1854 - Kansas-Nebraska Act

Description:

It was made to replace the Missouri Compromise. The new rule is that a state's population votes on slavery.

This pissed off many Northerners because it meant new states above the 36*30' line might be slave states.

People rushed to move to Kansas because it was pretty split on the issue of slavery- people from both sides moved there to vote. Strong slavery supporters were neighbors w/ strong anti-slavery supporters- this led to much fighting; "Bleeding Kansas."
