18 nov 1824 - Election of 1824
Description:
This election ended w/out a clear electoral winner. The president was decided by the House- Quincy Adams won even though Andrew Jackson had the popular vote.
People called this the "corrupt bargain" bc the leader of the House, Henry Clay, supported Adams bc Adams would make him secretary of state.
This election caused the Democratic-Republicans to split into the Democrats and the Whigs.
