Description:

"Democracy in America" was a book by Alexis de Tocqueville (French official sent to US to study democracy). He comes up w/ the term "American Exceptionalism" = saying that Americans believe themselves to be exceptional and do not have to follow the same rules as everyone else. They believe they are on a special mission to lead the world to democracy (and therefore can operate on different rules).
