Description:
Note: this was a problem throughout the 1780s, not just 1785.The Barbary Pirates were pirates in the Mediterranean Sea led by the Dey (King) of Algiers. The US gov was too weak to fight them and too poor to bribe them. The pirates exposed weakness in the Articles.
