In January 1970, a campus-wide course was introduced “to sensitize and educate social welfare students to the problems of the Chicano.” This course is titled “An Approach to Chicano Problems,” with guest speakers who were “knowledgeable in the problems of the Chicano. The importance of this course as mentioned by Francisco Rosales, a teaching assistant, a Chicano Studies Program is needed to reflect the Mexican American community in Arizona with a curriculum that does not deny Chicano history as if it was cut off after the U.S. acquisition of the Southwest.
