-Since the population in West Town and especially Humboldt Park was increasing, the number of kids attending schools increased as well.
-The proportional growth of Latino/a students in local schools occurred in part because so many white children were vacating classroom seats.
-Many white families who remained in the area chose to send their children to local conservative schools, abandoning the crumbling public school system as more Latina/o and African American children moved in
