Description:

1973 Tenants’ Association of Story Apartments went on a rent strike to fight rent increases. The apartments were a federal housing project located on the Eastside, which is predominantly Mexican-American. The strike continued for two weeks until it was settled on September 10, 1973 with the Tenant’s Association agreeing not to increase the rent and rehire their well-liked superintendent. This demonstrated the unfair housing conditions that heavily Latinx populations in San Jose were forced to live in.
