1 juill. 1971 - The 26th Amendment

Description:

In 1971, the 26th Amendment was adopted. granting 18-year-olds the ability to vote formally.
This was carried out as a result of massive nationwide demonstrations calling for reform.
Hawks and doves made up the two sides of the American populace. Hawks said that the communist system needed to be destroyed because if it persisted, it would eventually spread to the United States. The hawks believed that the war was therefore necessary. The doves, on the other side, argued in favor of ending the conflict.
They thought it was a needless waste of lives and resources and that it was resulting in an excessive number of American and civilian fatalities. The majority of the doves were liberals and Democrats.
