Description:
Southerner governors hated Tariff of 1828, such as Calhoun. Developed a document of "nullification". Writes that states have the right to "nullify" a federal law if they saw it as unconstitutional. South Carolina wanted to nullify, Jackson deemed the actions as treason and prepared to call in the federal troops. Eventually settled by Henry Clay, who lowered the tariff.
