1 janv. 1858 - First transatlantic telegraph cable laid
Description:
In 1858 the first ever working transatlantic telegraph cable was laid under the Atlantic Ocean by Cyrus West Field. This American merchant had several unsuccessful attempts at laying this telegraph cable. The telegraph was conceived in 1832 from an idea for an electronic telegraph. Samuel F.B. Morse then perfected this idea and created the Morse code, a code used for telegraph signalling through sounds and beeps, long and short to represent language. In only a decade multiple thousand miles of telegraph wires had been laid all over the US. Beginning in 1857, Cyrus West Field secured a charter to install an insulated telegraph cord across the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. This was extremely useful bridging the multiple day communication gap between America and England.
