The first American abolition society (The Society for the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage) is founded in Philadelphia.
17 of the 24 founders were Quakers.
Later (in the 1780s) its mission was expanded to include "improving the Condition of the African Race" -> offering jobs & education for Black youth
