On March 2, 1955, nine months before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Claudette Colvin refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger. She was arrested, and her case became part of a larger legal battle against segregation on Montgomery's buses.Despite her bravery, Colvin did not receive the same level of recognition as Parks.
