1 janv. 1600 - Isabel de Olvera
Description:
Isabel de Olvera was a free woman of mixed racial heritage and a servant to a Spanish woman in Querétaro, Mexico, who wanted to join an expedition to the new province New Mexico. Before she left, she had a document signed by a judge that she was a free woman "unbound by slavery or marriage". Her reasoning was that while her neighbors in Mexico knew her status, but her new neighbors might challenge her.
It remains unknown if that document helped her stay free.
