5 mars 1770 - Boston Massacre
Description:
The Boston massacre was a riot on March 5th 1770. Starting as a street brawl, the situation quickly escalated to a bloody slaughter. Ultimately, five people were killed by nine soldiers.
Why did that happen?
In early 1770 British soldiers occupied the city of Boston trying to enforce Britain‘s tax laws such as the “Stamp Act“ and “Townshed Acts“. This was met with rejection by American colonists which described the demands as supressive. On March 5th the soldier Hugh White was surrounded by angry colonists who threatened with violence. White fought back and attacked a person with his bayonet. More and more colonists entered the scene and continued to harass White. Other soldiers came to help but eventually the fight escalated. Fire was started causing five people to die.
