3 avr. 1908 - Continuous Passage Act

Description:

An amendment to Canada's Immigration Act of 1908. It bans the entry of any immigrant that does not come directly from their own country, without any stops. It was a covert way for the government to restrict immigration from India. This Act resulted in the Komagata Maru incident, a boat came to Canada after this act was put in place carrying 376 people on board, mostly from India. They were held in Vancouver's harbour for two months before being turned away. This incident sparked the growing Indian nationalism and fueled their contempt of Britain.
