27 déc. 1299 - Guillaume de Machaut (1300-1377)

Description:

Machaut, born in the province of Champagne in north eastern France, was the most important composer and poet in fourteenth-century France. His reputation as a poet exceeded that of Chaucer, on whom Machaut exercised a profound influence, and his music has come to typify the French Ars Nova. Machaut composed the first unified polyphonic setting of the complete Mass ordinary. Machaut was the the first composer to to compile his complete works, a sign of his self-awareness as an artist.
