Description:

The Casa de Contratacion was set up in Seville in order to ensure that Spain had a monopoly on trade with the New World and that profits went to the Spanish treasury.

There was a lot of smuggling and not all trade was correctly logged and controlled, however, it established a clear line from Spain that it controlled the New World.
