Description:
After three Judean rebellions (led by Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah), Nebuchadnezzar ordered the city of Jerusalem to be destroyed and its people to be taken captive into exile.
There were actually a number of deportations:
- in 605 BC, (the 3rd year of Jehoiakim's reign [see Daniel 1:1]) which included Daniel & his three friends;
- in 597 BC, (the 7/8th year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign [see 2 Kings 24:12; Jeremiah 52:28]) in which 3023 people were taken, including Jehoiachin & Ezekiel;
- in 587 BC, (the 18th year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign [see Jeremiah 52:29]) in which 832 people were taken, including Zedekiah (the city was destroyed at this time);
- in 582 BC, (23rd year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign [see Jeremiah 52:30]) in which 745 people taken
