Description:

-Was born in Morrison Illinois.
-What he determined was the size of the charge on an electron. He also determined that there was a smallest 'unit' charge, or that charge is quantized.
-The experiments he did to prove his statements about the atom was the oil drop experiment. This experiment was called that because it dropped oil between electrodes. After that they were able to measure the charge on a single neutron.
- He holds the distinction of being Columbia's first physics Ph.D. recipient.
