26 déc. 1991 - Dissolution of the Soviet Union

Description:

The dissolution of the Soviet Union was the result of a series of events that had been building for decades. The Soviet economy was in decline, and the country was experiencing a period of political turmoil. In 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev became the leader of the Soviet Union and began a series of reforms aimed at "modernizing" the economy and the political system on which it ran. However, these reforms ultimately led to the fall of the Soviet Union.

In August 1991, a coup was attempted by a group of hardline communist leaders who opposed Gorbachev's new reforms. The coup failed, and it became clear that the Soviet Union was no longer viable. In December of that year, the leaders of the Soviet republics declared the dissolution of the Soviet Union and formed the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The dissolution of the Soviet Union had a profound impact on the world. It led to what we thought was the end of the Cold War, the fall of the Iron Curtain, and the beginning of new democratic governments in many former Soviet republics. However, it also led to significant economic and social dilemmas, including inflation, unemployment, and political instability.
