Although US and the Soviet Union fought together as allies against the Axis powers during WWII, American afraid Soviet expansionism in Eastern Europe was intended to spread communism worldwide. The Cold War had solidified, when US executed the Marshall Plan to Western Europe to protect those countries from communism influence, bringing them under American influence. Moreover, US and European allies established the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), while Soviet Union executed the Warsaw Pact.
