1 janv. 1878 - The Discovery of Mitosis
Description:
Walther Flemming discovered the cell division process which is now called mitosis. The discovery was made when Flemming was studying chromosomes within cells and realised that the cells inside divide, making him the first scientist to describe the process mitosis. The german scientists discovery contributed widley to the priogression in cell theory and microbiology as it proved that the theory of cells coming from pre-existing ones. He found that the chromosomes doubled when they appeared in prophase and then went on to conclude that they solved the problem of chromosomal partitioning between mother and daughter cells. This discovery was very major for later work in the discover of meiosis and the theory of inheritance.
