1 janv. 1995 - Quebec Referendum and the Bloc Quebecois [1995]

Description:

The Meech Lake Accord and the Charlottetown Accord put doubt in all Canadians' minds about the future of Canada and its constitution. This led the Parti Quebecois to be re-elected with Quebec Premier Jacques Parizeau promising a referendum on whether Quebec should finally separate from Canada. The "no" side was more popular among the population, but when the Bloc Quebecois leader Lucien Bouchard announced he supported the "yes' side, it gained popularity. When the referendum came to an end, the "no" side had won by a slim 1%.
