24 juin 1948 - Berlin Blockade and Airlift

Description:

After World War II, the allies divided Germany into different parts, Soviets, Americans, the British, and the French. Berlin, was located in the Soviets territory but was also divided into four sections (east, west, north, and south). In June 1948, the Soviets who wanted Berlin all to themselves, closed all highways, railroads, and canals from western-occupied Germany to western-occupied Berlin. Because of this they thought they could prevent food and other needs from coming through thus creating an uprising and driving the Americans, British, and French out of the city. Instead of driving the U.S. and its allies decided to bring needs to the places that needed them, by air. This scenario, known as the "Berlin Airlift" lasted for more than a year.
