Time Down Under hasn't been smooth sailing for Hollywood's most famous pirate, Johnny Depp.

But the actor who portray's Captain Jack Sparrow managed a heartfelt grin has he left the set of the Pirates Of The Caribbean on Wednesday.

Since shooting for the fifth franchise began back in March, Johnny has abandoned the Gold Coast set a number of times and also caused a major border security breach.

Before catching his chopper to an unknown destination, Johnny met with fans while in full Captain Jack Sparrow costume.

He generously posed for photographs, shook hands and even cuddled up to a baby while looking rather frightening in his grubby pirate garb.

A bandage wrapped around his right hand's middle finger proved that he was still on the mend from his March surgery.

Just days ago, the 51-year-old star and his much-younger wife, Amber Heard, 29, landed back in Oz from the States after celebrating his daughter Lily-Rose's sweet 16 – his oldest child from his relationship with Vanessa Paradis.
