Description:

In 1564, he abolished the jizyah which was sometimes used by the
ulama to humiliate non-Muslims and was often considered a symbol of
Muslim domination and superiority. He had earlier abolished the pilgrim tax,
and the practice of forcible conversion of prisoners of war.
