At 16 years old, in a closed cattle car, she was transported to the Auschwitz extermination camp in Poland.Her left forearm was tattooed with the number 78651, something meant to reduce her to a nameless number.
Madeleine and Simone were liberated from Bergen-Belsen in 1945.
