ARC: The gold rush accelerated CA's admission to the Union as a free state, whic increases sectional tensions over slavery in the west.MIG: The gold rush attracted white americans, Eupropeans, Asians, South Americans, Mexicans, slaves and their owners and free blacks, as it was a land of oppurtunity and wealth. Many different groups lived amongst each other despite their differences in pursuit of gold.
