9 janv. 1846 - Wilmot Proviso and Oregon Treaty

Description:

Wilmot Proviso:
MIG: the Wilmot Proviso would have caused a struggle for any slave over hoping to move to the new territory gained from Mexico with their slaves. The ongoing debate over if slaves should be allowed in the new territory caused stress and unhappiness from slaves owners who were hoping to move to the territory.
ARC: This proviso caused tensions between the north and the south to ignite even more. The south was angered when Wilmot kept bringing up slavery, and both sides disagreed on the legality of slavery in the new territories.

Oregon Treaty:
MIG: People had a new area in the west that they could move to in order to seek new opportunities. This treaty set the stage for thousands of Americans to come to this land and build it up, now that they knew where the border was.
ARC: Some Americans viewed the 49th parallel as a fair trade, while people who used the slogan "54' 40' or Fight!" thought that this was unfair and wanted to go to war with Britain for the land up to 54 degrees longitude.
